What is Speech and Drama?

No matter what field you work in, or what occasions you attend, you will rely on your voice, your communication skills and even your performance skills, to present to an audience multiple times throughout your life. When taught how to use your voice to best to serve you, confidence and skill are developed and are carried through into all of your endeavours. This is the cornerstone of Speech and Drama.

Through poetry, prose extracts, monologues, group performances, improvisation, movement, reading and mime, students learn how to best use their voices, faces and bodies when performing in front of an audience. We work on vocal techniques such as expression, modulation, voice projection, breath and emphasis in a way that is always fun, interesting, stimulating and creative. These are skills that are not only important when on stage, but throughout life.

Speech and Drama is an excellent way for quiet or shy children to gently come of of their shells. It’s also a wonderful creative outlet for children who already love to perform. It develops the skills and confidence that children need to navigate whatever course life takes them on. I truly believe it is one of the most important activities any child can do.
